Tribrissen* 40% Powder

Description: Trimethoprim and sulfadiazine powder, antibacterial

Active Ingredient: Trimethoprim and sulfadiazine

Formulation: Powder for incorporation into fish feed. Contains 66.7g trimethoprim /kg and 333.3g sulfadiazine /kg.

Pharmacologic Properties: Tribrissen is active against a wide spectrum of bacterial pathogens, both Gram-negative and Gram-positive. It is bactericidal against susceptible strains and is often effective against sulfonamide-resistant organisms.

Proven effective against the following pathogens:

  • Vibrio anguillarum
  • Eschericia coli
  • Proteus species
  • Pasteurella species
  • Salmonella species
  • Shigella species
  • Streptococcus species
  • Yersinia ruckeri

In vitro, sulfadiazine is usually only bacteriostatic. Tribrissen imposes a sequential double blockade on bacterial metabolism. This deprives bacteria of nucleic acids and proteins essential for survival and multiplication and produces a high level of antibacterial activity, which is usually bactericidal.

Target Species: Salmonids: (salmon, trout, char), sea bass
Key Benefits:

  • Sequential double-blockade effect created by combining trimethoprim and sulphadiazine markedly lowers the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) compared to that required of either of these components used separately.
  • Many strains of bacteria that are not susceptible to either trimethoprim or sulphadiazine separately, are susceptible to Tribrissen*.
  • Tribrissen* is also effective against sulfonamide-resistant organisms

Label Indications: For the treatment of infections caused by organisms susceptible to trimethoprim/sulfadiazine*.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose is 30 mg of combined active ingredients (75mg powder) per kg bodyweight of fish daily for a period of 7-10 days. Tribrissen 40% powder is intended solely for administration in feed. It may be incorporated into the feed at time of manufacture or mixed with manufactured feed prior to feeding.
